Emotions can be self validating
As an empathetic person who feels things deeply, I have learned this lesson the hard way.It took me many years to grasp the concept that all emotions stem from thought. For example, if I’m feeling bored, sad, or lonely, I tend to turn to food for comfort. As I gain weight I then feel even worse because now my self-esteem suffers.Leaning into my emotions instead of numbing them with food has been a huge part of my process. The older and wiser me has learned to be very aware of my emotions and to check in with myself on several levels before allowing them to have the final say. Here are some of the lessons I’ve learned over the years to help me manage my emotions rather than allowing them to lead the way.tags: being-single, dating, goals, hard-to-get, holding-out-for-the-best, love, loving-yourself, not-settling, playing-hard-to-get, positive-thinking, relationships, single, single-life, single-woman, singleness, standards, the-single-woman, validation “Trauma is personal. When it is ignored or invalidated the silent screams continue internally heard only by the one held captive. In no branch of art did he become an executant or a creator: and yet one cannot deny that his whole activity was creative.” ― “Meanwhile, the net celebrates kids whose antics are the most sensationalist and, as a result, often reckless and self-destructive.When someone enters the pain and hears the screams healing can begin.” ― tags: captive, childhood-trauma, emotional-abuse, freedom, healing, healing-the-emotional-self, invalidate, lies, love, love-heals, marginalized, pain, ptsd, screams, screams-of-agony, silent-pain, trauma, validation “Everyone has their love story. It may have been a fiasco, it may have fizzled out, it may never even have got going, it may have been all in the mind, that doesn't make it any less real. Sometimes, you see a couple, and they seem bored witless with one another, and you can't imagine them having anything in common, or why they're still living together. It's the only story.” ― “I do the splits perfectly in PE. I get the spinach and pig-meat frittata from the lo-carb section for lunch. I mentally construct a My Face status, polishing the memories carefully until they shine. An entire genre of You Tube video known as Epic Fail features amateur footage of wipeouts and other, well, epic failures.
If you do not believe the body to be yours, but you believe that the mind is yours, then manodhyas (the belief that 'I am the mind') still remains.” ― “One could certainly call Diaghilev a creative genius, although it is not easy to analyse the nature of his creative gift. What he valued most was broad melody, and in particular whatever gave a singer the chance to display the sensuous qualities of his voice.During the years of his apprenticeship he bore our criticisms and jokes with resignation, but as he learned more about music – and about the history of art in general – he gained in self-confidence and found reasons to justify his predilections. When we validate our emotions, we become more aware and accepting of them, and we begin to understand where they come from. It’s only in this place of awareness that we can see what power they may hold over us.
